AVID is a national college preparatory
program for students who are underachieving or underserved. The
program assists students in developing the academic skills, self-confidence,
and motivation to attend and be successful at a four-year college
or university.
Students work on enhancing their study skills with the goal of
successfully participating in honors and Advanced Placement courses.
Students learn how to advocate for themselves in academic and non-academic
situations. Teachers promote personal empowerment and encourage
students to feel validated and recognized in school settings.
AVID is a regularly scheduled elective class that provides students
with:
- Academic instruction from an AVID-trained teacher
- Tutoring support
- Assistance with other class assignments
- Study skills
- College-level entry skills
- Curriculum enrichment
- Motivational activities
- Coping skills
- Options for careers
AVID is offered at Del Mar, Leigh, and Prospect High Schools. If
