On March 28-31, Westmont Thespian Troupe 2904 and Leigh Thespian Troupe #7618 joined more than 1,200 other high school Theatre students from 67 schools at the annual California State Thespian Festival in Upland, California.
Over the course of the weekend, students attended targeted workshops from experienced professionals and received a significant number of awards for their performances and lighting and tech design work
Westmont High School Student Amira Allawi won first place in Lighting Design in the state of California and won the Tech Design Senior Scholarship. Meantime, Kyle Friedman won the Future Theatre Educator Senior scholarship. Leigh High School student Lauren Sung was elected State Thespian Officer for 2019-2020. Camryn Lang, Peyton Herzog, Emma Miller and Isabel Thomas received scholarships at the festival. Leigh High School students also received first place for their performance of "Spring Awakening" and was selected to represent California at the International Thespian Festival.
