COVID-19 School Closure Update 4.28.20

Dear CUHSD Community,

We understand our community may have many questions following Governor Gavin Newsom’s press conference this afternoon that referenced the possibility of reopening schools for the 2020-2021 school year as early as July to make up for the loss of learning.

I want to clarify that we have not received this directive from our county leaders and no clear decision has been made yet on this. We will continue to monitor the latest guidance and information from our state and county leaders and if anything changes, we will inform you as soon as possible.

As we await new guidance, at this time we expect students will not be able to return to campuses by summer. Therefore, we are adjusting our regularly scheduled summer school to be online and designated primarily for 12th-grade students.

We are also beginning the process of creating a plan for next year that accounts for the specific learning needs of students following this period of school closure. As health officials have reiterated, Covid-19 is not going away anytime soon and we are preparing for several scenarios including the need for ongoing or an additional period of distance learning in the fall.

As these plans come to fruition and we receive additional guidance from public health officials, more information will be communicated to our community and posted on our website, www.cuhsd.org.

Sincerely,
