A Message of Support to All Our CUHSD Families / Un Mensaje de Apoyo para Todas Nuestras Familias de CUHSD
Dear CUHSD Community,
Yesterday, the new federal administration ended guidelines that previously protected schools, healthcare facilities, and places of worship from immigration enforcement actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). While I am deeply disappointed in this decision, I want to remind the community that our district remains committed to keeping our schools safe spaces for all students and families regardless of citizenship status.
It is important to understand that while immigration authorities may now have the option of making arrests at schools, they cannot freely enter campuses or move about them without limitations. Our staff have been trained to follow established procedures, including requiring immigration authorities to present valid court orders and ensuring legal boundaries are respected.
School staff do not collect or maintain information about students’ or families’ citizenship status. To further protect student privacy, we have reminded staff of the legal protections surrounding student data. Federal and state laws provide strong protections for student information, ensuring that personal data cannot be disclosed without proper legal authority.
We understand these events may create fear or uncertainty, but we encourage students to continue attending school and focusing on their education. Knowledge is a powerful tool, and interested families can learn more by accessing resources and understanding their rights at www.cuhsd.org/CommunityResources.
