Labor Management Partnership

November 19, 2024 Message to All Staff

The CUHSD Labor-Management Partnership (LMP) held its second meeting of the 2024-25 school year. The LMP is a cooperative forum where committed representatives of all employee unions and management meet as equals to improve student achievement by enhancing the teaching, learning, and working environment for faculty, staff, and administration through honest communication, shared learning, authentic dialogue, and joint problem-solving.

During the November 8, 2024 meeting, the LMP team discussed the following topics:

CELL PHONE POLICY: Last year, the LMP developed a district-wide update to the cell phone policy. This year, the team will survey staff on how the policy is being implemented. The goal is to understand what is effective and what could be improved. If you have any suggestions for questions to include in the survey, please email [email protected]. The survey will be distributed in early December.

STAFF RECOGNITION: How do you prefer to be recognized? Some people appreciate public recognition, while others prefer private acknowledgment. Some value years of service pins, while others do not. The LMP aims to gather insights on improving staff recognition. In January and February, the LMP will visit sites to conduct small focus groups with CHSTA, CSEA, and SEIU members to better understand their preferences. The bargaining unit representatives will select participants for these focus groups.

ONGOING TRAINING: The LMP will continue to receive training from the California Labor-Management Initiative (CA-LMI) and learn about other district practices by attending or hosting a Labor-Management convening.

POST-ELECTION SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES: Some students, particularly those who are LGBTQ+ or have undocumented family members, have expressed concerns about how their lives may be affected in the coming year. Supporting these students may become a focus area for the LMP moving forward.

The next LMP meeting is scheduled for January 14, 2025. If you have any suggestions for issues the LMP Team should address, please reach out to one of the members listed below.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our students.

Sincerely,
